Seasons Change

It’s hard to believe that just a couple weeks ago it was time to pack up the shorts and tank tops and start putting out fall clothes. The crisp autumn mornings are just the right time to stroll down to Joseph’s and check out our new items, arriving daily.  Soft comfortable tunics with pockets, plus lots of scarves and wraps.  Right now is the time to layer and still look fabulous.  You can snuggle up with your pumpkin spice and relax,  I like to read a book and listen to the birds this time of year.  Whats your pleasure?

The Boutique @ Joseph’s Department Store is Here!

After a few years of planning, remodeling, coming up with a new plan, and changing it again, (and again) Joseph’s “Next-Door” is officially a “thing”  We considered turning it into a toy room, or a men’s work wear store, even a giant bargain bin to merchandise old inventory (cut-rate-Joes, say what?),  But in the end, Christy had a vision.  “The Boutique at Joseph’s” will be an on-going project all year long, coming up with the theme was the hard part.  Merchandising some of our favorite ladies brands is the fun part.   We officially opened the “B@JDS” on First Friday, just about 2 weeks ago and the feedback has been positive.  Some of our customers are still looking for the “clearance room,” our goal is to continue to offer discounted inventory at low prices, but instead of dedicating the entire space next door to a giant bargain bin, we’ll have sale racks throughout Joseph’s where you’ll be able to save.

Thank you for your continued support.  Keeping a small business open for 8 decades isn’t something we take for granted.  We appreciate all of our customers, old and new.

We hope you’ll enjoy an out of mall “boutique” shopping experience at Joseph’s.

The Boutique @ Joseph’s Department Store is Here!

Thank you to our customers, our friends.

From all of us at the Joseph’s team, we’d like to thank you.  Not just our customers, but our friends.  For weeks, we have had big plans for the future of Joseph’s Department Store.  We’ve been counting down to our 80th Anniversary (EIGHTY YEARS!) and creating one of our favorite window displays, ever.  Our friends in Havre de Grace came through for us, offering us whatever they could to help us paint a picture of life from 1937 until 2017.  Thanks again to Jolene, (@Joretro) George, (@bahoukas_antiques) John, (@washingtonstreetbooks) Paula, (@bighousesigns) as well as Diane, Tyler and anyone else who came through to help get us showroom ready.

We stole the spotlight at the first First Friday of 2017 long enough to receive recognition and proclamations from our friends in the city and county.  Thank you to County Executive Barry Glassman, Mayor Bill Martin, Councilman Chad Shrodes, Council President Richard Slutzky, County Councilman Curtis Beulah with his wife Jean, David Craig, Councilman David Glenn and Councilman Steve Gamatoria for your kind words and acknowledgments.

The staff at Joseph’s came together to bring a little bit of ourselves into the store that we love so much.  Beverly, seeing your windows come from a vision to reality blew us all away.  Alex kept the flow of business running smoothly as we received new Spring merchandise and remained open for business through the process.  Thanks to Carrie, Fran, Kay, Maria & Joan for your stellar customer service  while we got everything ready to show.  While Scott has had a little (BIG) project of his own.

As we proudly look back on 80 years, family owned and operated at Joseph’s in Havre de Grace, we can’t help but look forward.  The evolving trends of retail bring us into the digital world.  We re-relaunched JosephsDepartmentStore.com with more functionality than ever before.  We have the power to sell our in store inventory anywhere.  Shop online for the newest arrivals while we continue to upload more of our 10,000+ piece inventory.  Conveniently shop online for in store pickup so you can still try it before you buy it.  We’re offering many other options through USPS and UPS to get your purchases to you a quickly as you wish.  We’re already noticing that hundreds of our customers have visited us at our new home on the web.  It’s with great pride that we relaunched such a powerful new website and we hope you’ll love it as much as we do.

Joseph’s Online 2.0

Welcome to the new Joseph’s Department Store Online, well sort of…

It’s still in the early stages as we transition our POS into a new phase making eCom shopping a new priority.  We’re making big changes to everything we’ve known for years to step into the new age of online shopping.

The convenience of being open 7 days a week in a small town isn’t always convenient enough.  We want you to be able to shop from home while supporting one of your favorite small town businesses.

Our goal is to get the merchandise from our store shelves to your front door at the click of a button. Maybe you saw something you liked on our shelves, and after 12 careful hours of consideration you decide, YOU NEED IT.  The store may be closed but josephsdepartmentstore.com will always be open.  With great delivery options that include in store pick up.  You can shop and save anytime, anywhere.

We can’t wait to show off our new project.  Our goal is to have the new online shop up and running by May 6 for our 80th anniversary.  What better way to celebrate 8 decades than to revolutionize the way you shop in the future?

We’re grateful for your support and cant wait to unveil the new Joseph’s 2.0

80 Years… and beyond

80

May 6, 1937.  Joseph Silverstein opened the doors to Joseph’s Department Store in Havre de Grace, MD for the first time, I would bet even he had no idea that over the next 80 years, Joseph’s Department Store would still be going strong as a staple in Maryland’s favorite small town.  Joseph Silverstein ran his own small business for many years before passing it on to his son Eli and eventually his other son Louis took the reigns, with the help of his wife Christy.  For 80 years, Joseph’s has survived highs and lows but continued to thrive as an out of mall shopping experience, offering competitive prices, the latest fashions, indoor / outdoor work wear and, more recently, toys.  Joseph’s has been a town favorite because of our attention to our customers.  We hear stories every day from our customers who have shopped Joseph’s since they were young, even their parents have been customers for decades.

Anyone who has been in our store through the years knows all of the changes we’ve made to keep our customers coming back.  Your loyalty is not something we take for granted and we look for new ways everyday to evolve into the next generation.

Our latest goals include the launch of online shopping.  This is something we’ve tested for about a year by offering select inventory for sale through Amazon.com and from our website.  Since it’s launch, it has proven to be effective and our next step is to expand.  JosephsDepartmentStore.com is currently disabled while we prepare the next phase.  Our goal is to launch the new website just in time for our 80th anniversary, and the first First Friday of 2017.

We just want to thank our customers, our family, for making it possible for us to still be a strong business after all these years.

We’re counting down to a century of small town department store shopping in a small town.

Cheers!

BOBBY JONES – New for Men!

Joseph’s Department Store is proud to be your local stop for quality clothing in Havre de Grace.

We’re enjoying the process of visiting trade shows and inviting new vendors to our department store weekly to find exactly what we think you’ll like.  Just recently we picked some of our favorites from Joseph Ribkoff spring line for women.  We’ve been looking for the best out of the box idea for our Men’s department.  We already carry an extensive collection of Carhartt, Levi’s, Lee, Dockers, Dickies and Wrangler.  We wanted to focus on our Bulle Rock demographic, specifically, our friends who Golf.

Bobby Jones was our first choice.  The Bobby Jones spring line features bright, comfortable styles of tees and polos, shorts, pants and khakis.

When you think about iconic figures in the game of golf, Bobby Jones is at or near the top of the list. Mr. Jones brought a level of elegance and sophistication to the course that was unmatched.

Decades after Mr. Jones retired, the Bobby Jones brand is celebrating its 27th anniversary in style. In the process, it is outfitting current and past PGA TOUR players like Michael Thompson, Michael Putnam and Kevin Kisner in apparel that puts a modern spin on Mr. Jones’ classic style.

We invite you to stop by Joseph’s to take a peek at our Spring line.  Mention this post and receive 20% Off your Bobby Jones items at Checkout!  See a store associate for details!

Holiday Festivities

So Thanksgiving is right around the corner and then we will blink and the Holidays will be here.  What is your favorite Holiday memory?   I can’t say I have a favorite tradition but I’ve always enjoyed the quiet evenings leading up to Christmas and watching the homes around come alive with decorations. And hot chocolate. Love hot chocolate at this time of year .  Also think pajamas as gifts on Christmas Eve are a neat idea. What are your memoriesq?

Till next time

Joe
